Qiū Chù Jī 丘處機 – Part 2

One day Qiū Chù Jī 丘處機 visted a family to ask for food and the homeowner looked at him and gave him half a bun. The man said, “I am not holding back half of the bun. I am a fortune teller, and I can tell that you will not live long. If I only give you half a bun, you might live longer because you will have some more food left.” Qiū Chù Jī listened to the man and remembered that his teacher, Wáng Chóng Yáng 王重陽, had also told him that he would not live long. So Qiū Chù Jī went back to the temple and decided that he would stay there to practise, and he would not go out to ask for food, and he would wait for the day he would die.

As time passed Qiū Chù Jī go thinner and thinner, and weaker and weaker. Then one day a farmer came to the temple carrying a bag. When the farmer entered the temple, he saw Qiū Chù Jī meditating and he said to him, “Even if you are waiting to die, you should still do some good deeds and not just stay here doing nothing. You should not waste your remaining life. That is not the Daoist way, you should do something to benefit others!” The man took out a peach from his bag and left it for Qiū Chù Jī and then left the temple. What Qiū Chù Jī  did not know was that the farmer was actually the Immortal Lǚ Dòng Bīn 呂洞賓.
