Liù Zì Jué 六字訣 – Six Sounds – Part 1

Can sound be good for our health? If the sound comes from natural or positive sources, like music, people talking, bird singing or the sound of the ocean, then most of the time these things are good. When you hear sounds like this they make you feel good and so this is good for your health, but if the sound or noise affects us badly and makes us feel uncomfortable, then that is not good for our health. So, you can see it is all based on how they make us feel. Animals are the same, some sounds affect them in a positive way and others in a negative way. Sound does affect our health. Sound is part of the environment we are in, if we live in a very noisy area it can affect how we think, affect our emotions and therefore our behaviour. It can cause us to make mistakes and eventually make us feel stressed, because the sound has affected our mental state. However, if we live in a very peaceful and quiet area then we can have a very peaceful mind, be focused, calm and more creative. So, you see, sound can affect us a great deal. If you go somewhere, do not just be attracted by the space and the way the room is decorated. You must also listen to the sounds that are in the area. It is the same with people we can tell from their voice how healthy they are.
