Xìng Mìng Shuāng Xiū 性命雙修 – Part 2

Xìng Mìng Shuāng Xiū 性命雙修 means practising or training the spirit and life together, but what does this really mean? The spirit is our attitude, our thinking, our mind, our feelings, all these things. Anything that relates to the spirit is Xìng, for example, whenever we practise our Qìgōng 氣功, our mind should only focus on the movements we are doing and we should not think about other things. This is actually quite easy, especially for beginners who really need to remember the movements. This focus helps us to empty the mind and focus on one thought. This is very good for the spirit and also good for our Qì 氣. Seniors do not need to try and remember the movements or the form as they know them so well, so they are able to empty their mind better and let go and let the mind just focus on the movements. When we can do this our Xìng 性 is good and we feel good. Our spirit, attitude and mind is very important not only for Qìgōng but actually for everything. A good Qìgōng master will have good Qì and their mind is strong and therefore their Xìng is strong as well.

When I was in my late fifties (I’m now 82!) A young man, Michael Tse came to PRESTWICH MANCHESTER (Where my pharmacy is situated). He gave a demonstration, held in a gymnasium, of Qi by “pushing over” one of my own customers, who had her back to him !from 3 meters away! He said “anyone else would like to try?” And he then pushed ME over! We couldn’t believe it! I went on to study with Michael. VERY HAPPY MEMORIES! Including practicing with Ip Chun when HE came to Manchester!
