Preparing for Meditation – pt7

Method 7 – Read a Poem

We can also read a poem which helps us to relax. It can just be a paragraph or a sentence which makes you feel good and does not bring up your energy and make you excited, it must also not be funny and not appropriated . It must make you calmer and more relaxed. This is what we want before meditation, then we can have the right attitude when we are meditating, so that we can do it properly and benefit the most from it. Again, once we feel that is enough, we do the Shǒu Gōng 收功 to bring all our Qi back to the Dāntián 丹田.

Method 8 – Slowly Read a Book

We can also pick up a nice book, one that has certain pages or paragraphs that help you relax and calm down. You can read these slowly, up the point where you can read it off by heart. After a certain time, you will feel yourself relax, become calm and even sleepy. This is the time to meditate. Then, when you find that you have done enough, Shǒu Gōng. We always Shǒu Gōng at the end so that we never waste our Qi.
