Bones are the Most Important

Mǎ Bù 馬步 – Horse Stance

Did you know that for good health, our bones are the most important thing? When our bodies have strong bones, our Qì 氣 will also be strong. No one has strong Qì but weak bones and this is because our Qì is stored on the bone marrow. The marrow is the essence of our Qì. We can have good circulation, good internal organs, good coordination, but all these things need good Qì to support them. So, if our bones are strong, then this will produce a lot of Qì and also a lot of blood, since blood and Qì go together.

When the Qì is strong, then the circulation will be strong and so the body will feel warm. To develop strong bones, we can practise Mǎ Bù 馬步 – Horse Stance or any other stance. This is because our legs are the root to our body, and when the roots are deep and strong, then the upper body will also be strong, we are just like a tree, the support comes from the roots. Then the circulation, internal organs, mind, senses and emotions will all be good. In Chinese Qìgōng 氣功 we always practice Zhàn Zhuāng 站樁 – Standing Position, were we just stand in a certain posture, relax the upper body, whether it is a high or low position depends on which style of Qìgōng or Kung Fu as they all have many different positions. Whichever it is, they are all good for the bones.
