Each single Qigong movement has a benefit which is quite obvious. For example in Balancing Gong we have the first movement “Holding the Dantian” where we put our hands over our Dantian. It is the simplest movement for beginners and everyone can practise it easily. However, it teaches the most fundamental principle of Qigong. The Dantian is for storing Qi. Qigong is about Qi and working with the Qi. After we have generated Qi we need to store it safely, in the right place in order that we can benefit from it and this place is the Dantian. The Dantian is the centre of the body, but we cannot see it as the Dantian is not an organ. It is an area at the centre of the body and the body’s centre of gravity. Therefore it is the most important area, even more important than some of the organs because it is where we store our Qi and keep it safe until we need it. Holding the Dantian with both hands gives the Qi to the Dantian. Just that movement alone will make you start to feel better. This is because we have more Qi. Then we start to discover our hands become warmer and give us energy, and so we may even feel some tingling, then we know our hands have healing power.
